In the present study, the acclimatized mixed culture is developed for the removal of methyl ethyl ketone (MEK). The biodegradation of MEK is studied for the initial concentration of MEK ranging from 200-700 mg/l. The maximum specific growth rate is 0.297 hr -1 which is achieved at 400 mg/l of initial concentration of MEK. The study incorporates the various kinetic models such as Monod’s and Haldane’s model available for biodegradation of MEK. The experimental data is well fitted with the Haldane’s model (R 2 = 0.87) as compare to the Monod’s model (R 2 = 0.522) as a result of self-inhibition which occurred because of excess substrate (MEK) concentration. The biodegradation rate follows the three half order kinetics and the kinetic parameters are calculated.

Phenol Biodegradation Kinetics in the Presence of Supplimentary Substrate
Biodegradation of phenol in the presence of glucose as a supplementary substrate was investigated with mixed microbial consortium isolated from waste effluent of coke-steel factory. Batch experiments were carried out at room temperature and pH value of 7. Initial phenol and glucose concentrations were in the range of 25-1000 mg/l and 500-3000 mg/l, respectively. In a dual substrates system the ...
متن کاملCompounds interaction on biodegradation of toluene and methyl ethyl ketone mixtures in a composite biofilter
Compounds interaction on biodegradation of toluene and methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) mixtures in a composite bead biofilter was investigated. The biodegradation rate of two compounds in the exponential growth phase and stationary phase for the single compound and two compounds mixing systems was determined. For the single compound system, the biodegradation rate of two compounds in the microbial gr...
متن کاملMultisubstrate biodegradation kinetics of naphthalene, phenanthrene, and pyrene mixtures.
Biodegradation kinetics of naphthalene, phenanthrene and pyrene were studied in sole-substrate systems, and in binary and ternary mixtures to examine substrate interactions. The experiments were conducted in aerobic batch aqueous systems inoculated with a mixed culture that had been isolated from soils contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Monod kinetic parameters and yield...
متن کاملOptimization of Xhhh strain biodegradation with metal ions for pharmaceautical wastewater treatment.
Effects of three ions, Mn2+, Cu2+ and Zn2+ on biological treatment of pharmaceutical wastewaterby a functional strain Xhhh were investigated. Through orthogonal tests, Cu2+ was determined to be the most important factor influencing Xhhh biodegradation performance. Biodegradation kinetic experiments demonstrated that with Cu+ concentration at about 200 mg l(-1), the maximum of specific growth ra...
